The app is very limited and not ideal for use while traveling. No option to download system maps for offline use. Unclear and difficult to follow steps to set up an account. Limited instructions for how to use the app and move throughout the system.

I have topped up with my overseas card and it cancelled but I didn’t get my refund yet. $100 was the amount. I contacted in Sydney Central Opal booth and they said it will take 3 days to get the refund. I will wait 3 days. And if I don’t get my money back I will take steps. After getting cancelled I have topped up from the booth in person with my local card, still I can’t see my topped up amount in Opal app.
Bemusing at best for 2025. You cannot use your iPhone as your Opal card (???). The app’s trip planner can’t find nearby stations nor match a partial station name. Google Maps does this trivially. All I’ve been able to do is register an Opal card, and hope that if I ever lose it then I can actually use this app to transfer the balance to a new physical card. Bonkers.
Please change the name of the app to “NSW Opal”. I travel overseas a lot and have many transit apps on my phone. Please help me and many others by inserting NSW into the name of the app to identify the app’s location.
i cant even top up my card multiple times despite deleting and downloading it again. also my friend topped up her card with $60 yet in the app it appeared 6$
I’ve tried at least 20 times to search a simple trip and app crashes every single time. It’s completely useless.
For some reason the app has started only showing me directions that minimize walking. So now if I’m trying to check timetables for my usual commute, which was usually a ferry + 30 mins walking or a bus + 20 mins walking, it’s now only showing routes that involve 5 mins or less of walking. There seems to be no place in the app to change this preference and it’s basically useless to get directions that add 30 minutes to my commute and three extra transport methods just to shave 20 mins off a walk. Super frustrating!
The app is mostly intuitive, but rather unstable. Most of the time, it will freeze and must be closed and reopened, sometimes multiple times.
travel planner quite helpful, overall pretty good
Yes yes I know apple did not allow nfc read until recently, but this has changed with iOS 13. So no excuses, please fix this and add the card nfc read to the app.
Cannot scan the card using phone. Option is seen in other versions where any other card is scannable to know the balance.
Utter crap. Trip planner is useless. Way better on chrome.
It would be awesome to be able to add the opal card to wallet to check the balance as other transportation apps.
I really hope one day I will be able to use my Opal Card registered instead of using Visa/Mastercard that doesn’t have Weekly Travel discount.
Minor UI changes ? And I cannot use the app without updating it ? why
Google maps does a better job of listing Opal route options than this app does. Unlike website search, this app doesn’t let you set route options. It always picks the “fastest” route, which is often just walking. For older folks who would prefer to ride despite taking longer, this app is useless. Ended up using Uber instead of the Opal service several times!
Top up on the app is great bit could you please add paypal as an option? Thanks!
The only usefulness is the ability to top up. The journey planner is useless. There is no live tracking and based only on outdated published schedules.
Please delete this app from the App Store. Utterly useless
No wifi, Doesn't work
Isn't really a bug fix, more a removal of the wording "Free travel" and changed to "Reward" how about you call it was it is instead of hiding behind the over used App Store term "Bug Fix" consumers are adult enough to understand why and what needed to be done, just stop being lazy and tell us what you're doing!
Useless app. Always logs you out and since signing back in is such a pain, there's no point of using this app.
The app intentionally disables the ability to paste an opal card number when adding a new card. Too much focus on flash. Too little on ease of use.
Why do i have to login every pretty much 1hr to check my left over amount. Please let us keep the login
Lacks many of the Options available on the website’s Trip Planner. I’m dumping it from my iPhone. I still get better info from the TransportNSW Trip Planner via Safari. Had high hopes, dashed.
